Woodcut is a relief printmaking technique that is suitable for beginners as well as those artists that are already working in other mediums. To explain it in basic terms – you take a plank of wood and cut into it using carving tools, roll ink over the top and then print onto paper!
It is a printmaking technique that I teach regularly in courses in and around Surrey and it has become a very popular subject for me across various venues and art groups.
In 2015 I included Woodcut as Module 7 of my longer Introduction to Printmaking online course and I am now excited to announce that Module 7 – Introduction to Woodcut is now available as a standalone online course.
So what does this mean?
You can now enjoy ‘Introduction to Woodcut‘ from the comfort of your own home as a simple-to-use online course that shows you exactly how to create black and white woodcut prints (i.e. single colour prints). You gain access to the online learning portal to the course for a single one-off payment – plus you have lifetime access to the content. You no longer need to join the longer full Introduction to Printmaking course to enjoy the benefits of woodcutting!
What does the course include?
The course includes explanatory videos with me demonstrating woodcut and how to make a finished print (without a printing press – i.e. you can do this from home!) You get a PDF manual, explanatory text and even a recording from an actual woodcut workshop that I taught in Farnham in Surrey. You will literally be studying along with other students new to woodcut.
The course is broken down into several modules making it a step-by-step process, and shows you exactly how to cut the wood, ink a block and finally print.
Module 1 – What is Woodcut?
Module 2 – Woodcutting Tools
Module 3 – Cutting the Wood
