This creative printmaking course is split over three Wednesday mornings in September / October and will explore relief printing via linocut onto paper. Relief printing is a process where the surface of the block (e.g. a sheet of lino) is cut away and only what remains of the original surface will print.
I will show you some examples of linocut prints and how to prepare and image before cutting into the block, the application of ink and most importantly – making prints!
You will be taught to print using both hand-burnishing and a printing press, allowing you to continue to explore the possibilities of relief printing from home or in the studio after the course has finished. Each technique will be clearly explained and demonstrated with plenty of time to experiment yourself. We recommend that you bring along some ideas or a sketchbook to work with on the first session. Each session will work on a separate project and print to develop your linocutting technique, become confident with handling the tools and work on your image interpretation skills.
No previous experience of printmaking is necessary – just bring along a few ideas or images to work with and we will help you do the rest.
